Amidst India-Canada row, Canadian PM Trudeau wishes ‘Happy navratri’

International Desk: It’s been a while since, diplomatic row between India and Canada sparked. Now Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has extended wishes for Hindu Community and those who celebrating on the occasion of Navratri. Navratri is a nine-day Hindu Festival which involves pooja of Goddess Durga and marks the victory of Good over evil.

In a post on X, he said “Happy Navratri! I’m sending my warmest wishes to members of the Hindu community and all those who are celebrating this festival.” PM Trudeau also issued a statement on the occasion of Navratri.

“Over the next nine nights and 10 days, members of the Hindu community in Canada and around the world will gather to celebrate Navratri”, the statement read.

“Navratri is one of the most important and sacred festivals in the Hindu faith, commemorating the victory of the goddess Durga over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura and the triumph of good over evil. Often seen as a celebration of feminine energy, it is a time for friends and family to come together and honour century-old traditions with prayers, joyous performances, special meals, and fireworks”, it added.

The statement further said that Navratri offers an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about the rich history and culture of Hindu communities and to recognize their invaluable contributions to Canada’s social, cultural, and economic fabric. He extended best wishes to everyone celebrating on behalf of his family and the Government of Canada.

The statement has been issued at times when diplomatic ties between India and Canada have been are undergoing tension. Earlier, Canada PM Justin Trudeau accused Indian government for having potential involvement in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani extremist. India responded to allegations posed by Canadian Government and called them absurd and baseless. Both nations also expelled each other’s high ranked diplomats as a tit for tat move. The Indian Government has also suspended new visas for Canadians.
